When we moved into this house- our second bathroom was an odd shade of blue. Now everyone knows I love blue- but this wasn’t a good situation people- so as usual- I geared up for a quick project that took a million years. Pulled out my favorite Benjamin Moore paint color- Shaker Beige and got to work.
What I didn’t realize is that the reason the walls looked a little funny is because the original owners had removed the wallpaper- bless them- but had not textured the walls- and because all walls in our house are essentially made from cottage cheese- they soak in paint like they are dying from dehydration in Death Valley!!
That being said- this is not a lot of wall space and I figured I could bang it out quickly. As usual- my enthusiasm was a bit much for everyone… no windows- TX summer- bathroom next to the baby’s room so I would work at night as quietly as I could… are you getting a sweaty, red-faced, exhausted picture here?! And I swear I was not taking advice from these guys… but they did keep giving me the stink eye…
Well- in the end it was done and looked a lot better- much brighter- so that was that. But not really- cause then we had baby boy #2! Now we had double bath time- double towels- double trouble in there! and two towel racks that were hung on the cottage cheese walls that shockingly wouldn’t stay up! (that was dry humor people if you couldn’t tell)
So- why not jump on the board and batten band wagon!? If I put that up with some hooks it would solve the following problems…
1. The hooks would actually stay in the wood on the wall
2. I could place the hooks so that there is a possibility that maybe someday sometime someone besides me will hang up a towel
3. It makes it user friendly – no one can say… well I didn’t know how to hang it neatly… it’s just hooks!!
So… here we go…
there was no real rhyme or reason to the measurments- just wanted to avoid the light switch and wanted it to be at a level that was reasonable for towels to hang and not touch the floor and also that the boys can reach. I don’t have the measurements but I just used a very thin- light wood- 1 strip did it for $3.99 at Lowe’s-
I hand sawed it to the lengths I wanted. I attached them to the wall with trim nails and then countersunk them and caulked over them as well.
I caulked every where because paintable caulk is the best medicine for any little mistake!:) Then I primed- don’t forget how the walls soak up paint- and then painted it a nice, bright white. Huh… the door and trim around it aren’t bright white… bummer.
So- off to get a nice almost white and Thank you Very Much, I am done! and I love it! and the boys love it too- I am sure they will put their towels on the hooks for two more days for always and forever!
Kinda not so easy to take a lot of pictures in a tiny bathroom… so I put on my thinking hat and that didn’t really help either- but here is a shot of it in the reflection of the mirror…
SWEEEEETTTT!
The kids’ bathroom looks fantastic- I really love the wall treatment! I’ve been meaning to put hooks for towels in my own kids’ bathroom, because I don’t know of any child who actually folds towels after they use them! I love BM shaker beige- such a great color.
Love it!!! Your bathroom is darling!
