A dear friend of mine has a beautiful little girl who is turning 3! Now I love my two boys and really do love being a ‘boy mom’- but there are times when I see a little hair bow or some glittery shoes, or a tutu and drool uncontrollably I pause at the cuteness…
Anyhoo… This little girl is a cutie-patootie and for her first Birthday I made her a cute little stool that matched the colors in her room and had her initials on it. Well for this Birthday her Mom asked me if I could find a little rocking chair for her and give it a little personal touch- and best of all- she told me I could do What Ever I Wanted!! Love those words!
So straight to the Internet I flew! with my two crazy guys right now that is my easiest form of shopping. And once again Craig and His List did not disappoint! a little roughed up- but this pretty off white rocker was perfect and so was the price! I raced the boys and I over and snatched it up!
For those afraid of Craig’s list here is one tip- when I do a search I always type in my city after the thing I am looking for. This will help you to stay close to home and in a familiar area.
It isn’t technically a children’s rocker but that’s what I liked best about it because it will allow her to grow into it- it is low to the ground so she can still get in it now- but I can also sit in it comfortable as well.
I sanded it down using-
and then sprayed it a bright white to match her room.
I found the cutest stencil of a crown, which as this little girl is a princess at heart, I had to incorporate it somewhere! So on it went!
And then the real fun began! I have never recovered anything or reupholstered anything before- but it occurred to me that a little padded seat in a fun fabric would make it a little more cozy and give it a personal touch- so off I went on a fabric hunt- gotta love the remnant bins- found this cute pink one and a yard was more than enough- even left me some to mat a little picture for her too:)
So- first step was to cut the fabric into a shape I liked and leave about a half inch extra on the sides- then I put this super duper amaze glue on it and folded it under like a seam to just keep it in place while I used the staple gun.
I don’t have a fancy staple gun- I believe it was only about $15- and it works like a charm- it also shoots nails as well. I only mention that to prove you don’t have to have all the fancy, expensive tools to get a job done:)
After I finished stapling- I took a small hammer and just lightly tapped all of the staples down so that nothing would get caught on them. I then used my trusty, cheapo glue gun:) and glued some coordinating trim ribbon around it-
I was all done, but after taking another look I decided to distress the crown stencil a bit and now I love it even more- this chair is fit for a princess and I hope she loves it as much as I love her:)
Sorry these pics don’t have the best lighting- but I have to take it over tomorrow and this is all the light I had!!
Hope you are having a great week!

Wow! That is a beautiful chair! I love the cushion that you added and the ric rac! Thanks so much for linking! I had my little girl after my 2 boys and I do have to say that she has my heart…..even though she won’t wear hair bows! 🙂
Soooo cute!!!!! The little pink cushion is a charming touch. I enjoyed my visit to your lovely blog. Hugs!
So cute! My Mom had the exact same one for us when we were little. I totally remember it. It did not however have a cute pink upholstered seat.
Thanks for sharing this @ Workshop Wednesday! I hope you link up your lastest creation this week!
