I have always wanted to do inspiration boards online for myself and for others but I have just never jumped in and done it! I am old fashioned and still love my magazines and torn out pages and such… ya know like they did back in the olden days.
But recently I saw that Beth, from Home Stories A to Z, was doing a contest on Olio Boards partnering with West Elm, and I thought well it might be time to figure out this whole board thing. I dove in and with a small learning curve I Loved it!
In fact, I loved it so much that I will soon be offering inspiration boards to clients!
I thought it would be fun to go on a little inspiration board journey with you though so you can see how it works… and doesn’t:)
My first trial run is my master bedroom- I assured the Hubs that this was for the love of science and it had to be done- and we had to get a new rug…
and paint…
and some other stuff…
for all of you…
not me…
you’re welcome.
Because I have the patience of an ant, I forgot to take a before pic, but here is a fairly recent one~
I did really like it- but it just wasn’t meeting all of my needs- that little red table for instance was super cute- but not a great place to display anything- and my room is the only kid boy free zone that I have so all of my special stuff is, well stuffed onto my dresser. And the paint color was starting to get old to me… ya know cause it has been up there for like two years;)
Oh and did I mention that the duvet that is on there finally drove my hubs and I mad?! When will I ever learn that duvets just aren’t for me? They never stay in place and it drives me batty! So that had to be replaced.
Now that you see how dire the situation was, I will show you my inspiration Olio Board, which was held up due to four different samples of paint that I was completely undecided about.
I’m not gonna lie… I was doing a happy dance! And budget wise it wasn’t too bad- the biggest expense would be the rug- but was still reasonably priced on Overstock for an 8×10.
Here are the items I already have:
Headboard
Grey Euro Pillows/Shams (Ikea)
Lamps (from Target)
End Tables (Joss and Main)
Dresser
Bookcase (Overstock)
Bamboo Chair (see post here)
Fabric for recovering chair (Ikea)
Grey Pic Frames (Ikea)
I have curtains but have a spruce up plan for them
Things I need… ok, want:
Rug (Overstock)
Bench (Overstock)
Paint (Benjamin Moore- Northern Cliffs)
Oh and the energy to paint… thankfully that was given to me this weekend in the form of a McDonalds Coke!:)
So phase one was painting! If you follow me on Facebook you got a sneak peek, and if you don’t, well, you should. Now because I was doing all of this with little to no need for a bedroom redo- I had to put on my thinking cap budget wise. This week was the Sherwin Williams 40% off paints sale- so in I went with my Benjamin Moore sample and sheepishly asked them to recreate two gallons of it. Does anyone else feel bad about that? Like I cheated on Ben and made Sherwin feel like sloppy seconds? Just doesn’t sit right- but it was all in the name of love… i.e. keeping my husband from having heart failure over my spending.
And I am in love with this color! Just a great blue gray that somehow has some warmth in it too!
Here is a shot before I got out the ladder and finished up top- heavily textured walls are so annoying, especially when you don’t have crown molding- it’s so hard to get a clean line whether you use tape or any other method… believe me… I’ve tried them all! But here you can see the difference in colors…
It’s hard to capture a great photo right now with the room in total chaos but you will see more soon! And the best part… the rug and bench are on their way!
xoxo
