I love our house… you know there is a but coming right? But… we are pretty short on storage space. Now on one hand, this keeps me from hoarding, but on the other hand sometimes I really do need more storage- like in the kitchen! We do have a pantry but it is not very big and we are a Costco loving family which of course equals buying things in bulk. Need I remind you I have two growing boys and needing bulk food will not end any time soon?!
So all of those boxes get thrown down in the open area on the floor and it DRIVES ME CRAZY… no really… really really crazy! And I have redone and organized in there before and it just hasn’t cut it with all of the bulk stuff.
The other day I was doing important things and sitting on the couch watching HGTV and I happened to see a pantry similar to mine… only about 10x bigger… but it was like they slapped me in the face or if you are against violence, they turned on a light bulb over my head! Simple, simple grab and go storage down at the bottom in affordable, stackable bins… yes, you can all smack your heads and say duh now.
Unfortunately for all of you I still feel a need to show you my light bulb duh moment because it is making me so happy… and well, it’s my blog… so here is the embarrassment before…
And after a $25 trip to the Container Store and dumping all of the snacks in the bins we were all set with room to spare!
TIP* If you buy sandwich baggies in bulk- take a whole box of them out and stuff it in another full one- then you aren’t storing all of those boxes.
Clearly cheez its and gold fish are important to our survival…
I’m so happy- and when I was cleaning the floor down there it forced me to look at the doors and start cleaning them. Bad. Idea. Let’s just say that maybe these doors haven’t ever been cleaned in a long time and once I started it wasn’t looking to hot. But a little brain storming and I grabbed my 3M tape and painted out the details on the inside in Annie Sloan Napoleonic Blue- just to draw attention away from the tired, beat up doors and I love it! It plays off of the navy dining room that I will be sharing with you soon:)
Why didn’t I do the outside? Well let’s face it, these doors are open more than they are shut… boys people… boys.
That first coat never looks too good… but carry on people!
Looking better!
Dark pantry hallways with no natural light don’t make for great photo shoots but just trust me… it’s purty;)
Some day I might be brave and paint the doors on the outside a color, but today was not that day-
Hope you are having a great week!
B
xoxo
