I love decorating… obviously. But with two boys, it has to be practical! A bunch of Waterford Crystal would last about two seconds around here. So I am always thrilled when I can not only get a nice look for less, but also one that is not a “I guess I will put this here with pillows all around it and hope for the best” breakable situation!
So get ready to be amazed…. and then grab your car keys and head to your closest Big Lots!! If you don’t have one… I’m sorry… you can look at mine though…
I found these large ornaments that you would swear are mercury glass… but BAM! They are plastic! and wait for it… $3 each! Woohoo! And they come in silver, red, purple, and blue.
I snatched up all the silver ones they had (sorry neighbors and friends) and threw together a fun little vignette on my hearth. I already had this amaze metal basket from Homegoods and I added some extra large pine cones from Hobby Lobby and two of the faux mercury glass ornaments and one plastic glittery one from the $1 store. I did throw in one little green filler I had- but that’s it for now! I will probably add a pretty Christmas ribbon on once it gets a bit closer:)
I have to admit I am itching to get the Christmas stuff out and up! Are y’all day after Thanksgiving decorators, before that, or after that? I have always been day after- but I feel like I might not make it this year!;)

So cute! I love the mix of metallic with the natural. My decorations are usually more rustic but this year I want to add some sparkle – you did this combo so well! 🙂
Thanks Elizabeth! That was the combo I was going for- natural/glam- but it really is hard to pull off so I really appreciate the compliment… now we will see how the rest of the house pulls together;)
I love decorating for Christmas, but it has definitely gotten more challenging with kids! I have a 4 year old, 2 year old, and baby, and this year I’m even debating the Christmas tree… We have 16 foot vaulted ceilings and usually get a 12+ foot tree that a friend cuts for us. But the 2 year old is pretty naughty, and I can definitely see him climbing the tree. Oh the woes of kiddos! 🙂
I hear ya! I was terrified my second boy would climb the Christmas tree because he climbed everything in site- but thankfully it never came to that:)
Hooray for unbreakable decor! My son is finally old enough to know he has to be careful, but we host a Bible study at our house and there are lots of little ones running around all the time!
I have finally put any keepsakes that are breakable in my room so that they have a fighting chance!:)
This is great, I love this and I love that it’d be perfect for my son to take them out and not break them!
Totally- and I found some great plastic ones at Walmart too- it’s just nice to not have to worry about it!
Looks fabulous like everything else you do, Bee! (And you coach basketball?!?! You’re a Renaissance woman!)
I’m a day-after decorator…but I might maybe possibly start earlier?!?
Thanks for posting this on the Daily Blog Boost today! 🙂

Thanks Brooke! Shhh… don’t speak of my alter ego basketball coach;)
Lovely! Thanks for sharing at the Twirl & Take a Bow Party! Have a great day.
